5G network slicing in action
With 5G slices, korero and Telefónica Germany are enabling the energy transition
Smart digital solutions are key to mastering energy transition successfully. To account for this, Telefónica Germany entered a partnership with korero GmbH. The service provider specializes in digitalization solutions for the energy industry. Together, korero and Telefónica Germany are setting up local 5G slices for energy suppliers.
korero offers holistic solutions from project engineering to the hardware- and software integration . This will enable precise future measurement of electricity supply and demand, along with demand-responsive control.
Network slicing divides the existing 5G network into independent virtual networks. These 5G slices can be configured individually in terms of speed, latency, and security for specific applications such as for energy suppliers, emergency services, or TV productions. Pioneering energy providers like Stadtwerke Saarbrücken already use a 5G slice provided by Telefónica Germany and individually configured by korero for data connections in relation to network status monitoring.

5G slicing
Key to future intelligent and stable power networks
Through implementation of 5G slicing, municipal utilities are taking a decisive step closer to their goal of creating smart and stable power grids that meet the demands of the future. With a 5G slice, municipal utilities can reliably monitor and control the performance and utilization of their power grid at any time – even in real time. To do so, transformer stations, distributors, electric charging stations, and other nodes in the power grid are equipped with smart sensors and connected via 5G.
This innovative technology enables efficient use of network resources and provides tailor-made solutions for critical infrastructures like energy supply. 5G slicing thus makes a decisive contribution to the stability and flexibility of power grids and paves the way for a sustainable and secure energy supply.
